This Month: Donate to Sopo at Sevananda, Sev Kicks in 25%

Hungry for natural food and feeling generous?  This month, Sopo is Sevananda's Be The Change organization, which means that you can donate to Sopo at the register, and Sevananda will match your donation by 25%.  If 60 of our friends kick in 5 bucks each, Sev will throw in $75, and that's rent and utilities for one month!

We Need Road Bikes!

Cleaning out the homestead this summer?  We could use that old road bike of yours.  So many people on the verge of becoming commuters visit us, only to find that our selection has been picked over, and we have very little to offer.  A couple of used, decent road bikes dropped off at Sopo here and there would go a long way towards turning out more cyclists, and YOU can help!

Contribute to East Atlanta Strut Auction, Proceeds Benefit Sopo

strut logoThe 2008 Strut Silent Auction is a fundraiser for Sopo Bicycle Cooperative!  This year, the silent auction is full of new features, including a print directory of auction items that will list your or your company's name and contact information, and auction items grouped by category with staggered auction ending times.  You can sign up to donate online!

The East Atlanta Strut is our annual neighborhood festival of art, food, music, and fun!  All of this happens on September 20 in and around the East Atlanta Village.

We ARE Adding Wednesday Night Shop Hours!

The community has spoken.  We're adding Wednesday night shop hours (7 pm - 10 pm) starting next week.  Let's try it out for the summer and see where it takes us!

Of course, we can only keep it going if we have enough volunteers.  Next Volunteer Orientation is on Monday, June 16, at 7 pm, at the Sopo shop.  Remember...we're a teaching shop, so being a volunteer means allowing people to turn a wrench from themselves and treating everyone equally!

We need HAND CLEANER and TUBES!

Wanna buy Sopo a present and help out your fellow cyclists? We need HAND CLEANER and TUBES! We like Organge Goop and Gojo, and lots of it! You can get either of those hand cleaners at any hardware store. We also need road bike tubes (27 in/700 c), which you can get at any local bicycle shop. Next time you're picking up a tube for yourself, consider getting one for the commnity, too! Sometimes a tube is all it takes to get one more bicycle out on the road.

Mechanic Volunteers Needed on Sundays

It's been wonderful being open on Sundays. Tons of people come, and we have a lot of fun. We have a big need for volunteers who know how to fix bikes and who are willing to help people. If you can let us know that you're available to help, that's great. Otherwise, just show up!

Dear Atlanta, Sopo Loves You

We've had some nasty storms, and more are on the way tonight. Looks like our little village and the places where our friends live got the worst of it. We thought we'd tell you that Sopo loves you, we've got your back, and we'll try our hardest to be open tomorrow (depending upon whether it's safe and a good idea to be out and about). We can serve as a community gathering space, a place to get high fives, and potentially a place for you all to swap and share tools and materials (chainsaws to get at tree limbs, etc). We can't promise too much else beyond the usual free bike repair and general social merriment, but please come on by if you're in need of any of these things. Stay safe, y'all!

We need wrenches, tubes, and more! You can help!

Been wondering if there's anything we could use at the shop that you might pick up for us? You're in luck! We need..

TOOLS:

  • 11 mm box wrenches
  • 13 mm box wrenches
  • 16 mm box wrenches

PARTS:

  • Dérailleur (shifter) cables
  • 700c/27in tubes (presta and schrader valves)

We ALWAYS need these parts, and we're seriously OUT right now. And these are the primary things we need to make sure everyone who comes into the shop can get back out and ride!

We have a few things on order at Outback (bulk patches!). Let us know if you'd like to pick up the tab on that.

Thanks again for the love and support!
